What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is applied as a free-flowing powder in a completely dry form. Think of it as paint with the solvent part removed. The coating is applied electrostatically and then cured under heat which causes it to form a kind of “skin.” Usually powder is used to coat metals, but there are a number of potential applications.

Here at Film kings People love window tint. But they also love having their automotive rims powder coated because it offers the following benefits:

  • Protection: Powder coating adheres to the surface more securely, helping it stand up to dings, scratches, and other types of surface damage.

  • Longevity: The protective quality of powder coating means the finish will last much longer, especially when compared to basic paint jobs.

  • Financial Savings: Given its scratch resistance and longevity, powder coating helps minimize the need for costly touch-ups and repairs.

  • Customization: Not only does powder coating come in a variety of colors, but there's a wide selection of finishes as well, including metallic, high gloss, glitter, and fluorescent.

  • Environmental Conscientiousness: Other finishes contain high amounts of solvents and volatile organic compounds (VOC), which can become hazardous vapors or gasses. Powder coating, on the other hand, uses no solvents and has very low levels of VOC. Furthermore, the process also uses much less water than other finishes
